Kindness is a Super Power We Can All Grow

I came across a woman who was quite annoyed at me for trying to use the common kitchen while she had reserved it.

I’ve got to admit — I was pushy in getting her to let me in, and she got upset. However, I always stayed respectful and apologetic.

More importantly, I started talking to her. I introduced myself with a corner smile. I asked her what her name was, and how her day was going.

She seemed surprised. She was clearly not expecting it — especially giving the way she welcomed me— and it soothed her down.

Soon enough, I was out of her way. I made sure to thank her and apologize again for the inconvenience I might have caused.

I still meet her in the corridors from time to time, and each time, she smiles at me and greets me with friendliness.

She seems to have forgotten about the initial annoyance I caused her, and only remembers the kind intentions I displayed.

There are so many other occasions in which being friendly and kind proofed to be a powerful way of life. Especially as it doesn’t seem to be the norm, it positively surprises others.

It is so simple, it spreads joy, and people are so much more inclined to help us when we choose to be kind rather than cold or entitled.

Kindness is one of the most powerful skills I’ve come across. It is so hard for others to be agressive and negative to us, when we behave with genuine kindness.

So, in every given situation dealing with people, I do my best to choose to address it with kindness. Nothing bad ever came out of that.
