What do you want to pay for?
The picture above shows the view I enjoy when I sit on my bed, here in Bangkok.
I love it.
I just arrived a few hours ago in my new hotel, and got an “executive room” for a hundred and something bucks.
It comes with:
- breakfast, tea time and cocktail every day
- private club with executive privileges (a bunch of not-so-useful stuff)
- panoramic view on the whole city
- swimming pool, spa, sauna
- a million of complimentary stuff (food, drinks and other things)
- dedicated staff 24/7
- two bathrooms
- one bathtub with city view (yup sir)
- free laundry
- wifi and phones
I don’t need half of this stuff, and I have never been in an executive room before, but I do understand why people love it.
It’s not about using everything available, it’s about having the choice and being relaxed/stressless in one of the most hectic city in the World.
That’s the kind of place where the only thing that you have to focus on is what you decide to focus on.
All the rest is taken care of.
The purpose of my visit here is purely out of curiosity, because I am in an exploring phase and I want to widen my experiences, opening new doors to see what’s behind.
But if I had to choose a place where to lock myself for a week and get shit done, I’d totally pick a place like this one (in such a big city at least).
I have no idea how it can be so affordable here, but when you consider the view, the comfort, the service, and the fact that you have access to free food and drinks mostly all the time, this is a very interesting deal.
Unlike the 1st class flight which I don’t think I will try again anytime soon (even though it was mesmerizing), staying at places like those when I am visiting a new country and want to get some work done is totally in my plans.
I didn’t fell in love with Bangkok the first time I came, and I still don’t think I could live here.
But there is a very interesting vibe I am not used to feel.
While I usually focus on finding the best deal, spending less, increasing the ratio quality/price, focusing only on the quality you really want to have, regardless of what it costs brings a different type of outcome.
I entered the room without being obsessed by the quality I got for my money.
Instead, I was mind blown by how the whole experience was way above what I could have expected when I booked the room (especially for the service part and the features that come with the room)
Now I understand the importance of deciding exactly what I want to pay for.
Do I want to pay for something that will give me the best value for the money I spend, or do I want to invest in an experience that will change my perspective regardless how it costs?
Opening this door brings me new perspectives for the future and makes me see further in what’s accessible.
